Outdoor hot tubs

Relax in balmy North Atlantic seawater while taking in the exquisite view. The spacious hot tubs are heated using surplus heat from Norröna’s engine room and are located aft on deck 7, starboard side. We have 3 hot tubs with room for up to 6 people each.

It is possible to rent a hot tub for 1 hour. Please contact the reception onboard for more info.

Swimming pool & fitness area

Pamper your body and soul on deck 1, where you will find our fitness room, sauna and swimming pool. There are several machines and tools available for training. These services are free to use.

The swimming pool is closed during the winter sailing. The fitness room is open daily from 07.00-19.00. Subject to closure in bad weather.

Entertainment

Experience a relaxing crossing with Norröna, featuring live music, informative presentations, and bingo games. For quiet downtime, visit the cozy reading corner or enjoy board games in Undirhúsið.

The cinema

The cinema is on deck 5 and can seat up to 23 guests. Tickets are sold at the reception on board. The movies shown are all new movies.

Reception

During the summer and shoulder season the reception is open 24/7. During the winter season the reception is open from 8am to 10pm every day

The reception can assist you with: General information, cabin upgrades, tax free refunds, luggage boxes etc.

You can buy Wi-Fi access, tickets for the cinema and hot tubs at the reception.

Football pitch

The football field is located on deck 9 on open deck, and is open from 12:00 till 18:00.

Teen room

A great place on deck 6 where children and teenagers can meet and have fun playing Play Station games.

Playroom

The playroom is located in Nóatún Cafeteria. Here children can meet peers, find new friends and play for hours.

Gaming

On deck 7 you can find the room with all the gaming machines.

It is not allowed to bring an electric kettle on board.

There are no Microwave onboard, but do you need to heat a bottle for a small kid, the reception can help with that.

 There is a hairdryer in the cabin

You may bring your baby carriage on board, however for safety reasons the baby carriage must not be left in the corridors, but must be kept inside the cabin.

 There is no laundry machine or laundry service on board.

You can pre-book a baby cot before departure or rent it on board. We charge 150 DKK/€ 20 for the rental of the baby cot. The price includes bed linen.

Currency onboard is DKK. However, you can also pay with EUR, USD and ISK notes (not coins) and in this regard, the ship’s exchange rate of the day is the valid one. When making a payment, you will always receive the change in DKK.

All major credit cards are accepted onboard. Sometimes the internet connection is unreliable and it is best, if you bring an extra card and some cash with you. 

It is not possible to exchange or withdraw money on board.

The tab water onboard MS Norröna has been cleaned and is drinkable

230 volt. The common electric outlet in Europe with two pins. Please bring along an adapter, if you are uncertain. Charging of batteries in electric cars, caravans, auto campers etc. is not allowed onboard MS Norröna. Gas cylinders must be off while onboard. There are two outlets in the cabins, however none by the bed. 

You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages, however you may not bring your own food to the restaurants/bars and other public areas, where it is stated.

Pets, dog policy

Dogs are not allowed to be brought to Iceland.

If you travel to the Faroe Islands, the duration of your stay there must be a minimum of 3 months if you are bringing a dog. 

Transporting a dog does not require payment, you will need to rent a cage. Current price for a cage is €68 EUROS.

It is a mandatory to book an animal cage for your dog to stay in.

Transport of pets is against supplementary charge and according to special regulations as agreed with SML. When you book a cage, you will get a number – 1 to 4 if it is a small cage or 5 – 6 if it is a larger cage. When you come on board, you need to pick up two keys at the reception. A deposit of €27 EURO is required, which will be refunded, when you deliver the keys. The size of the cage is as follows: The large cages are 80 cm (W) x 115 cm (H) x 130 cm (D) and the smaller cages are 80 cm (W) x 55 cm (H) x 130 cm (D). 
Pets are not allowed in the cabins onboard. Any violation of this rule will result in a fine of 405 EUR for cleaning.

are dogs permitted on board and allowed in hotels?
Dogs are not permitted in the hotels in Faroe Islands. You are not allowed to bring a dog on vaccation in Faroe Island.

Can I bring my pet?
Transport of pets is against supplementary charge and according to special regulations as agreed with SML. Pets cannot be brought to Iceland. Please check with local authorities regarding regulations for import of pets to the Faroe Islands: www.hfs.fo. Pets are not allowed in the cabins onboard. However, there are dogcages onboard, 2 large cages and 6 smaller cages. The large cages are: 80 cm (W) x 115 cm (H) x 130 cm (D) and the smaller cages are: 80 cm (W) x 55 cm (H) x 130 cm (D).

 

Couchettes

This budget-friendly compartment features 6 bunk beds (76x198 cm) with a western door, shared shower/toilet facilities.

Bookable for solo travelers (gender specific) or groups of 4-6, with an optional bed linen package (€ 20) and luggage storage on deck 2 or 7, costing DKK 10 (small) or DKK 20 (large) per use:

Small box: 78cm D x 40cm H x 30cm W
Large box: 88cm D x 60cm H x 40cm W

Car Deck Closure During Crossing

Unfortunately, the car deck is closed during the crossing.
This means that you will not have access to your vehicle during the journey and you will need to rest in your cabin.
For safety reasons, the engine and electricity of your car or motorhome must be turned off while on board.

Charging of batteries in electric cars, caravans, auto campers etc. is not allowed onboard MS Norröna. Gas cylinders must be off while onboard.

Passengers can carry up to 50 kg of frozen goods per booking or up to 1/2 m3 and luggage up to 50 kg without any extra charge. For further information regarding the delivery of the frozen goods, please contact the check-in staff. Frozen goods must be labeled with the name and address of the owner. However, it is not allowed to bring frozen goods to Iceland. This service is free of charge and Smyril Line takes no responsibility for damaged goods. 

It is allowed to bring max 20 liters of extra liquid gas on board MS Norröna. The tanks need to be of steel and need to be approved for the purpose. Upon arrival in Iceland: Clients should contact the customs in Iceland upon arrival in order to pay tax of the extra gas. 

Only gas that already is in the built in tank of the vehicle is allowed. Extra gas tanks are only allowed to bring on board, if they are empty. Due to safety reasons clients are obliged to inform the check in staff that propane gas is in the vehicle. 

When measuring the length of your vehicle, please use a period instead of a comma, for example, if it is 4.5 meters long.

Smoking is only allowed in the smoking area Hjallurin on deck 9. This restriction applies to both passengers and crew. It is not allowed to smoke in the cabins. Any violation of these rules will result in a fine of 203 EUR.

Are there smoke detectors?
Yes, there are smoke detectors present on the Ferry.

What is the cafeteria menu for meals on the ferry?
Yes, you can purchase food in the cafeteria when you are onboard the ferry from Hirtshals to Seydisfjordur. The menu includes a variety of options, including sandwiches and a lunch buffet. So, whether you prefer a sandwich or would like to enjoy the lunch buffet, there will be choices available to satisfy your appetite during the journey.  What time should I arrive for breakfast at Skansagardur buffet?
The breakfast at Skansagardur buffet does not have specific time slots for arrival. You can come anytime during the opening hours of the restaurant. It is advisable to arrive at least 15 minutes before the restaurant closes. Open times for Skansagardur buffet are displayed on board.

Can I buy meals later and onboard?
Yes, you can purchase meals onboard at an additional cost. It is advisable to pre-book meals to receive a small discount.

Is the free beer tasting included in our Viking trip booking?
Unfortunately, free beer tasting is not included in all trips. Until 03.01.2024, complimentary beer tasting is included in the price when booking a trip departing in the Spring

Are there towels and shampoo in the cabin?
Yes, there are towels and a liquid soap provided in the cabin for both body and hair use.

Can I have breakfast later?
The restaurant is open from 07:00 to 10:00, so unfortunately breakfast is only available during that time. But it is possible to buy coffee, tea, and bread at Noatun restaurant throughout the day.

What are the available payment methods?
We accept Visa and MasterCard. We do not accept American Express.

Are you allowed to bring your own food and drinks onboard?
You may bring your own food and drinks onboard. However it is not allowed to bring it to the restaurants/bars/café and other public places, where it is stated.

Are there kettles or coffee makers in the cabins onboard? If not, may I bring one myself?
There are no kettles or coffee makers in the cabins and you cannot bring it yourself, because of the safety onboard.

Is it possible to get a baby cot onboard?
Yes, you can pre-book baby cot onboard. We charge 150 DKK/20 EUR for renting it out. The price includes bed linen.

Am I allowed to smoke inside while onboard?
No. New regulation for smoking has been declared by the Home Government in Faroe Islands to be set in force on the 1st of July. This means for the Norröna, that it is only allowed to smoke on open weather decks; this will be in force for both passengers and crew. Violations of the law will be penalty with heavy fines.

Is there someone looking after children swimming in the pool and fitness area?
Parents have at all time the responsibility for their children at the swimming pool and fitness area. Children under 15 years must always be accompanied by parents.

Can you order a wake-up call from the reception?
This is not a regular service, but will be on individual request at the reception. If in a Delux cabin, the wake up call can be made via the telephone from the reception.

How much luggage can I bring with me on board?
Up to approx. 200 kg. personal belonging is allowed. If the luggage contains commercial goods, please contact our freight department.

Can I bring my BABY CARRIAGE on board the ship?
Yes, baby carriage can be brought onboard and can be used for transportation around the ship. However, for safety reasons the baby carriage must not be left on the corridors but can be kept inside the cabin.

Is there special facilities for disabled travellers?
Norröna is equipped with 6 cabins especially facilitating disabled travellers (see cabin descriptions)

Do Wheelchair users have easy access to all areas on board the ship?
Two lifts are in the front and at the back of the ship. The lifts are facilitating deck 2 to deck 8. The pool and fitness area are on deck 1, so no lift is available to this area. It is pretty easy getting around the ship with a wheelchair also on the open decks. Please always inform disability when you book your travel. 

Is there a hospital onboard Norröna?
M/F Norröna is equipped with a hospital. The hospital can supply some medical medicine as required by the authorities.The Chief Officer is the medical officer on board and is able to assist with first aid. The Chief Officer is in directly contact with the main hospital in Tórshavn if professional advice is needed. If necessary doctors assistant can be transported to the ship by helicopter or the passenger can be picked up and transported to the nearest hospital. It is possible to get doctor assistance by helicopter in all areas when Norröna is sailing.


What if I easily get seasick?
If needed antiseasick pills can be purchased at the Reception.

Same as GMT or 2 hours after Denmark time

Always ship time i.e. Faroese time

what is the difference between a couchette compartment and couchette?
Compartment on deck 2 (below car deck) with 6 bunk beds (76x198 cm) and a western door. Shared shower/toilet facilities. The couchettes are perfect for the budget conscious. 
Bookable for 4-6 persons (whole compartment).
If you travel solo or less than 4 person, you can book a bed in the couchette ( gender specific ) but you are not guaranteed a bed in the same room
Bed linen package can be pre-booked at the price of € 20 and includes a duvet and a pillow with cover, bed sheet and a towel.
Luggage storage (boxes) is on deck 2 or 7. The boxes are in two sizes: The large box is 88cm (D), 60cm (H) and 40cm (W) and the smaller one is 78cm (D), 40cm (H) and 30cm (W). The cost for using the boxes is DKK 10 for the small one and DKK 20 for the bigger one. It costs every time the box is opened.

Passengers with special needs must be at the check-in counter 2 hours before departure.
Passengers who fail to comply with these terms can not expect to travel with the Norrøna on the planned sailing. Passengers who fail to comply with these terms are pr. definition "No-Show" passengers; meaning that they will not get their tickets refunded.

do you accept hazardous goods on the ferry ?
For safety reasons luggage and vehicles may be examined before entry is allowed on board. In case this is denied, the traveler may be refused boarding with no right to claim compensation for the fare. Luggage which might cause considerable inconvenience to or endanger the safety of the vessel, human beings or goods must not be brought aboard. The carrier shall with regard to the circumstances, without any obligation to indemnify the passenger, be entitled to bring the luggage ashore, to render it harmless or to destroy it, if brought aboard without the carrier´s knowledge and written consent. The passenger must not bring on board any luggage or article, which may be considered a safety hazard under international ship and port security code. If the violation of the above provisions causes the vessel to be detained, restricted in operation or involves the imposing of a fine upon the carrier, the vessel or its owners, the passenger is to indemnify the carrier for any and all costs and expenses caused thereby including, but not limited to, the loss of revenue. The traveler must observe all regulations in laws and international conventions, which concern transport of dangerous goods/luggage.

Unfortunately, it is not possible on our online booking system to reserve more than 1 seat in a gender-separated couchette compartment. You are very welcome to send us an email with your booking, and we will make the reservation for you.

Power on the car deck?
There is no possibility to be connected to power on the car deck

Is it allowed to take gas cylinders aboard Norröna?
Yes, motor home use gas cylinders are allowed onboard Norröna.
The regulations say that campers/motor homes must have some kind of visible proof of having gas cylinders with them. This has to be stated to the check-in crew when embarking the ship.And at all times while aboard, the switch must be on the OFF position. Gas cylinders must not be rusty, or in danger of leaking.

What time do I have to leave my cabin?
1 hour before arrival at the latest.

How do I get from Seyðisfjörður to Reykjavík by public bus?
Bus from Seyðisfjörður to Egilstaðir and than from Egilstaðir to Akureyri. Stop over 1 night and then from Akureyri to Reykjavík
Bus from Seyðisfjörður to Egilstaðir and then from Egilstaðir to Höfn. Stop over 1 night and then from Höfn at to Reykjavík.

Only gas that already is in the built in tank of the vehicle is allowed. Extra gas tanks are only allowed to bring on board, if they are empty. Due to safety reasons clients are obliged to inform the check in staff that propane gas is in the vehicle.

Can we have our pram in the couchettes?
It is not possible to have prams in the couchette rooms. However, the reception will help you find a place for it.

Can I use a gas refrigerator in my camper?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to connect the refrigerator to gas during the sailing. The gas must be completely turned off during the crossing

Can we disembark and spend time in the Faroe Islands during the ferry journey?
During the ferry journey, it is possible to disembark and spend time in the Faroe Islands. However, please note that there will only be a brief stop of approximately 30 minutes on the way to Iceland and on the return journey. It is not possible to explore the Faroe Islands extensively during this short stop. If you wish to spend more time in the Faroe Islands, you can choose to disembark and then take a later Ferry onwards

Can gas cartridges be taken on the journey?
Yes, gas cartridges can be taken on the journey. However, they must be securely closed and disconnected and should be declared during check-in.
